MINIBIAN 2015-02-18 is out!

rpi2htopMinibian 4th release is out! This new release corrects some minor bugs and supports the new Raspbbery Pi 2 with updated firmware  (kernel 3.18.7+ #755) and system based on official Raspbian repositories.
The release is backward compatible with RPi B and RPi B+.
I did some benchmark tests on RPi B+ and RPi 2 and i can confirm that the CPU speed is 6x faster than older version.
You can check here for the features list, while you can download the compressed image following this link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/minibian/files/2015-02-18-wheezy-minibian.tar.gz/download

  4. SourceForge is failing frequently. Is there any way to grab the .img file anywhere else ?

  5. I am stuck with a rpi2, it give no ip via DHCP : /

  6. Warning:
    owners of Raspberry Pi B+
this image can’t bring up eth0 (wired network) interface,
so you can’t connect to your RPi.

  7. Hello,
I’d like to take advantage of the SATA port on the BananaPi.
Has anybody tried and succeeded on installing Minibian on BananaPi?
    Have a nice day,
    V.

  8. Error on install for my Raspberry 2:

    Errors were encountered while processing:
    /var/cache/apt/archives/raspberrypi-bootloader_1.20150421-1_armhf.deb
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I tried to fix it with …
    1 / apt-get autoclean
    2 / apt-get upgrade -f
    Same error
    and later …
    3 / rm /var/cache/apt/archives/raspberrypi-bootloader_1.20130902-1_armhf.deb
    4 / apt-get install raspberrypi-bootloader

    but result is still :
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    /var/cache/apt/archives/raspberrypi-bootloader_1.20150421-1_armhf.deb
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

    Any help?

  9. Does anyone experience a weird boot when you manually issue a reboot?

  10. Installing package “raspberrypi-bootloader_1.20150820-1_armhf.deb” ensures that the /boot is empty and the pi doesn’t start any more! Can you fix this?

    • Solved it. The update didn’t show an error report, since I hadn’t enough free space the update stopped, it has already deleted all files in /boot. Expanding the partition solved this.

  11. root/raspberry is not working for the default login.

  12. Can you public sources? I want to build it for olimex device.

  13. hi, is it compatible with raspberry pi b model 256 Mb ram?

  14. For the ones having problems with updating. The first thing you need to do before anything else (apt-get update etc) is to apt-get install raspi-config and resize the sd card. If you do an update first then you wont have enough space to do the bootloader upgrade because of no space and also wont be able to install raspi-config.

  15. Hi !
Will you update the package to the new Jessie Raspbian?
    Dominik

  16. At the very first installation, the DHCP on eth0 is working for me, using this publication (2015-08-18). Do you plan to do Jessie ediditon?

  17. Yes – can you either update to Jessie or post some instructions so someone else can pick up where you left off? This is a great image and is value to many.

  18. Seems that the 2015-02-18 version doesn’t work on the Raspberry compute module. The official’s wheezy version does work fine.

    • Jiangdn, what is exactly that does not work? I’m using it with great plesure, running Apache, ssh, samba for my little office. (I am not in connection with the builder, so it’s not an advertisment, before you think) I think, it is too easy just giving some bad words for it than ask for help….

      • I’ve downloaded some different images including the official wheezy and the minibian wheezy. I used the Win32DiskImager to write the images to the emmc only the official one worked, others failed in booting. no output on the serial console at all, even the uncompressing kernel message.
Later after my comment, I tried the script from https://github.com/niklasf/build-raspbian-image again, build an image in a virtual machine, write it under linux and it worked.
So I think it has something to do with the Win32DiskImager.
        Do you have any suggestion?

      • I used the Win32DiskImager version 0.9.5, unzipped (ungz-ed, untar-ed) the image, so I came these files: (you might download it again, I made MD5 for you)
        6ac4eda21993204393a0e830762580d9 *2015-02-18-wheezy-minibian.tar.gz
        then:
        ccd25b459594713cc7ce012fd9fe4ddc *2015-02-18-wheezy-minibian.tar
        finally:
        2dc41c4aa005263394db2c91904fd183 *2015-02-18-wheezy-minibian.img
You might need to check the MMC itself. I used a Kingston 2GB, and it perfectly fit onto that, then expanding the filesystem, and so on… so you can install other softwares, too, later.
I would not bother installing self-made stuff, because this edition can do really what I want from it.
At the very first time I plugged it to my Linksys, it showed me the IP, and grabbed my putty / terminal. SSH is worked for me, I can suggest to use a HDMI cable connected to your TV, and therefore you can easilly follow the ongoing process.

  19. Hey, nice image !

I had a DS18B20 1-wire thermo sensor connected to my board and I only had to add dtoverlay=w1-gprio to /boot/config.txt to have it work, modprobe not needed. How come?

  20. Hi, thank you for your image. I did tried your Minibian newest version in the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, but some problems happened.
After using Win32DiskImager to flash the image to e-MMC, I powered the board, but the OS failed to boot many times (just one time OK). The error related to MMC card, which is BKOPS_EN bit is not set. Could you please let me know how to fix it? Thanks.

    • Maybe you can try using dd command under a Linux distro on a virtual machine.
I’ve encounter the same problem, using dd solved it.

      • Hi, thank for our reply. You mean that we should use dd command on Linux machine to download the image to Flash, instead of Win32DiskImager. Thanks.

  21. How can I set up wlan0?
I constantly have “wlan0 link is not ready” .
